Apprenticeship Program

Aurora conducts a year-long academic and hands-on mini-farm training program, for the general public. The program focuses on soil fertility, growing food in a small space, and exploring potential for generating income through growing, processing and marketing specialty crops. A soil testing station is being established at the Learning Center and the apprentices will maintain it and run the testing program for members of the public who bring samples to be tested.

The group meets twice weekly for coursework and field trips. On occasion, extended field trips are planned for the apprentices to take advantage of special seminars, tours, and offerings elsewhere within the region.

At this time, there is no charge for the apprenticeship program. Some extended field trip costs are offset by grants, but generally, participants share the costs of travel, housing, and food on field trips.

The next program begins in November. For more information, please contact the Research Director, Dawn Hunter, at 641 472-9941, or email her at .
